Sacramento County Board of Education Vacancy

Trustee Area 4 Post Open Effective October 11

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon is announcing that County Board of Education Trustee Victoria L. Deane has resigned from her post as Trustee of Area 4 effective October 11, 2010. Ms. Deane is moving out of the area she represented. Her term was scheduled to expire in June 2012.

Ms. Deane was first elected to the Board of Education in 1992 and during her tenure served twice as both president and vice-president.

According to the bylaws of the Sacramento County Board of Education, within 20 days of the effective date of the vacancy, the Board shall consider the matter of filling the vacancy.

When a Board member resigns four or more months before the end of a County Board member's term, within 60 days of the effective date of resignation the Board shall either order an election or make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy.

At the October 19, 2010 meeting, the Sacramento County Board of Education will consider what course of action will be pursued to fill the vacancy. The Board must either order an election or make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy by December 10, 2010.

Area 4 represents the following: communities of Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, and a portion of Carmichael. School districts: a major portion of San Juan Unified and a small portion of Twin Rivers Unified.
