Board of Education Elects John C. Scribner President

Area 6 Trustee John ​C. Scribner has been elected President.

New officers were elected at the July 21, 2009, meeting of the Sacramento County Board of Education.

Elected President for the 2009–10 term was John C. Scribner, who has served as Area 6 Trustee since 1992. Mr. Scribner, a resident of Elk Grove, previously served as Board President in 2003–04, 1999–2000 and 1994–95, as well as four terms as Vice President. His term as Area 6 Trustee expires in June 2012. Mr. Scribner works as a staff member for California State Senator Lou Correa.

Trustee Harold Fong was elected Vice President. A resident of Sacramento's Pocket area, Mr. Fong has represented Area 7 as Trustee since 2000. Mr. Fong has chaired the Board Policy Committee and previously served twice as Board Vice President. His term as Area 7 Trustee expires in June 2012. Mr. Fong works as a Program Manager with the California Department of Health Care Services.

The County Board of Education voted to continue to hold its regularly scheduled meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, with each meeting having a scheduled start time of 6:30 p.m. The Board of Education webpage includes a meeting schedule, driving directions, and a trustee area map.

The offices of Board President and Vice President are held for one year. Trustees are elected for terms of four years. Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon serves as Secretary to the Board of Education.

The Sacramento County Board of Education works with the County Superintendent to provide numerous instructional programs, teacher/administrator training, and administrative services through the Sacramento County Office of Education, as well as hearing student expulsion and student interdistrict transfer appeals and serving as the County Committee on School District Organization to hear transfers of territory and election issues.
