K–8 Civic Learning Pathways to the State Seal of Civic Engagement
Civic learning is a fundamental component and function of public education. It helps prepare students for college, careers, and civic life. While high school students are eligible for the State Seal of Civic Engagement, civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions should also be a focus at the elementary level. To encourage this, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) has launched a Civic Engagement Recognition Program to support and celebrate the civic engagement of fifth- and eighth-grade students at public schools in Sacramento County.
Criteria

Recognition
Classroom teachers, in consultation with site and district leadership, determine which students meet the criteria. School districts or schools may then submit a Certificate Request Form with a list of students in grade five and/or eight. SCOE will issue personalized certificates for each student. Students in all public and independent charter schools in Sacramento County are eligible.
