California State Standards and Framework (update heading and overview)

California’s History-Social Science standards were adopted in 1998. In addition to the content standards, California’s History-Social Science Framework, adopted in 2016, provides educators with guidance on best practices to support the instruction of history-social science content, support the development of student literacy, facilitate student inquiry, and integrate civic learning at all grade levels. For grades K–5, California’s Common Core Standards for Literacy in History and Social Science are embedded in the standards for reading informational text, literature, and writing. In grades 6–12, there are separate standards that help teachers see the cross-curricular applications to history and social science.
