Sacramento County Board of Education President Gretchen C. Bender has resigned from her post as Trustee of Area 2 effective July 1, 2009. Ms. Bender is moving out of the county. Her term was scheduled to expire June 2010.
According to the bylaws of the Sacramento County Board of Education, within 20 days of the effective date of the vacancy, the Board shall consider the matter of filling the vacancy.
When a Board member resigns with four or more months before the end of a County Board member's term, within 60 days of the effective date of resignation the Board shall either order an election or make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy.
At the July 21, 2009 meeting, the Sacramento County Board of Education will consider what course of action will be pursued to fill the vacancy.
Area 2 represents the following: communities of Antelope, Del Paso Heights, Elverta, Gardenland, Hagginwood, North Highlands, North and South Natomas, North Sacramento, Rio Linda, Robla, and a portion of Foothill Farms. School districts: Center Unified, Twin Rivers Unified, Elverta Joint, Natomas Unified, and Robla.
