In an effort to recruit potential candidates interested in employment opportunities in the education field, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting its 3rd Annual Substitute Recruitment Day.

The day-long recruitment event will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the David P. Meaney Education Center (located at 10474 Mather Boulevard, in Mather) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning with a ninety-minute information session at 9 a.m.

Applicants are encouraged to learn more about this rewarding experience that provides a valuable service to a diverse population of students, as well as a flexible schedule.

"We continue to have a need for well-prepared, quality substitute teachers and paraprofessional educators to work in our wide variety of programs," said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools. "It is important for all qualified candidates to realize that substitute opportunities at SCOE frequently lead to full-time jobs."

Teachers must have a B.A. degree and have passed the CBEST.

Para-educators must have a high school diploma. A para-educator is a school employee who works under the supervision of a certificated or licensed staff member to support and assist in providing instructional and other direct services to children, youth, and families. Paraeducators play an important role in providing educational opportunities to students in our local schools.

During SCOE's Substitute Recruitment Day, prospective substitute teacher and para-educator applicants will be able to take advantage of on-site interviews and testing, as well as meet with recruiters from various SCOE programs:

  • Juvenile Court Schools
  • Community Schools
  • Special Education for Students with Emotional Disabilities
  • Special Education for Students with Severe Handicaps

Applicants must bring copies of their resume, diplomas, credentials, and CBEST results. Pre-registration is available, but walk-ins are welcome.
