In an effort to recruit prospective candidates interested in employment opportunities in the education field, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting its second annual Substitute Recruitment Day.

The recruitment event will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the David P. Meaney Education Center, located at 10474 Mather Boulevard in Mather (adjacent to Mather Field in the Rancho Cordova area). The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To begin the day, a group information session will be offered at 9:00 a.m. Driving directions and maps are available.

"As our community continues to grow, so does our need for well-prepared, quality substitute teachers and paraprofessional educators," said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools. "Candidates should realize that substitute positions at SCOE can often lead to full-time employment."

SCOE's substitute teachers and paraprofessional educators serve a diverse population of students at locations throughout the county.

Teachers must have a bachelor's degree and have passed the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test). Para-educator applicants must have a high school diploma. A para-educator is a school employee who works under the supervision of a certified or licensed staff member to support and assist in providing instructional and other direct services to children and families. Para-educators play an important role in providing educational opportunities to students in local schools.

During SCOE's Substitute Recruitment Day, prospective substitute teacher and para-educator applicants will be able to take advantage of on-site interviews and testing, as well as meet with recruiters from various SCOE programs:

  • Community Schools
  • Juvenile Court Schools
  • Special Education for Emotionally Disturbed Students
  • Special Education for Severely Handicapped Students

Applicants must bring copies of their résumé, diplomas, credentials, and CBEST results. Pre-registration is available but walk-ins are welcome.
