Independent study is an educational option available to all Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) students enrolled in any SCOE school or SCOE educational program throughout the county, including community schools, the Senior Extension Program, and the CARE Intervention Program. 

Student Rights

• All students have a right to enroll in independent study.
• All students have a right to request and participate in a student/parent/teacher conference before deciding whether to enroll.
• All students have a right to disenroll promptly and re-enroll in a more appropriate program.
• All students have a right to both synchronous instruction /live interaction and asynchronous learning.

Notification Letters

Letters are sent to SCOE families, formally notifying them about the new independent study options and providing additional details.
