SCOE’s School of Education includes programs that help new teachers get their credentials and aspiring leaders become administrators. Its mission is to provide high-quality credential programs and professional development to support teachers and leaders in the Capital Region. The School of Education is comprised of three divisions: Teaching, Leadership, and Technical Support.
Teaching Division
The Teaching division of the School of Education includes an Intern Program, Teacher Residency Program, and Induction Program. The Intern Program supports candidates in a variety of ways during their mandatory “pre-service” and during their time as full-time teachers during the two years of Intern Program. The Teacher Residency Program is an innovative teacher preparation program built upon an accelerated course of study centered around a yearlong student teaching placement at a single school site. The Teacher Induction Program supports teachers who have earned their preliminary credentials, are in their first two years of teaching with their preliminary credentials, and are working to further develop their teaching practice.
Leadership Division
The Leadership division of the School of Education is housed in the Leadership Institute, a collaboration with local school districts that prepares and supports aspiring education leaders and current administrators. The Leadership Institute provides CTC-approved programs for preliminary administrative credentials and clear credentials. The California School Leadership Academy provides ongoing professional learning and support for administrators in the field related to high-quality instruction and leadership. The Institutes are year-round programs focused on filling the expected need for highly qualified and trained administrators in the Sacramento Region. The Institute supports the development of the skills needed to provide leadership at school sites and in district administration. The guiding principle is “high-quality leadership is key to success for students, teachers, schools, and districts.”
Technical Support Division
The Technical Support division of the School of Education includes recruitment and retention support and the Statewide Residency Technical Assistance Center (SRTAC). Recruitment and retention efforts include a regional job fair for classified and certificated employees. SRTAC provides expert advice and support to program leaders from local education agencies (LEAs) across the region.
