Sacramento County Superintendent Announces Appointment of Susan Stickel

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon today announced the appointment of Susan Stickel to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) staff. In her new capacity at SCOE, Stickel will join the Instructional Support Services Division and serve as Director III of Curriculum, Instruction and Intervention services within the County Office.
Most recently, Stickel served as Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the California Department of Education.
"We are delighted to welcome Sue to our County Office team," Superintendent Gordon said. "Our County Board of Education and I look forward to working with her as she joins our outstanding curriculum and intervention services staff to extend and expand top-quality curriculum and instruction throughout Sacramento County, and even beyond," Gordon said.
Stickel is a recognized expert in instruction, curriculum development and professional development. In her new capacity at SCOE, Stickel will oversee curriculum instruction and assistance training, and assist with curriculum development with Court and Community Schools, Special Education, and Regional Occupational Programs (ROP).
The announcement comes as the County Office prepares to develop a teacher and administrator training program for Region III, the ten-county Capital Service Region which includes the following counties: Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba.
"Sue was instrumental in the development of a teacher credentialing program while serving with the Elk Grove Unified School District and she brings a wealth of experience with her to help establish a similar program within the County Office of Education," Superintendent Gordon said.
Earlier in her career, Stickel served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum/Professional Development with the Elk Grove Unified School District and Instructor of Education Administration for California State University, Sacramento. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Council Teachers of Mathematics. In 1984-85, she served as President of the Elk Grove Education Association.
Stickel holds a Master of Arts degree in educational administration from the University of San Francisco, an Administrative Credential from the University of San Francisco, and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from California State University, Sacramento.
