Every day, Sacramento County youth make positive contributions to their local communities. In many cases, those efforts go unnoticed. It is now time to honor those young people who are making a difference for themselves or others at home, school or in their community.

The Sacramento County Office of Education has announced that nominations are now being sought for the Youth Inspire! Award. The award recognizes the positive efforts, strong character, and achievements of young people throughout Sacramento County. The program is being presented by the Prevention and Student Services Department of the County Office and the Youth Inspire! Partnership Council.

"The Youth Inspire! Award is our chance to say to those young people who are making a difference and are deserving of recognition: 'We did not forget you!'" said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools.

Those eligible for nomination are Sacramento County residents, ages 5-21 years, who are making positive contributions to their community and/or demonstrating significant achievement or character. Anyone may submit a nomination. Nominations may also be submitted by an organization. The names of nominators will remain confidential.

The Youth Inspire! Award consists of a personalized letter of congratulations, a certificate and an invitation to an awards ceremony.

Youth Inspire! was launched in 2002 by the Prevention and Student Services Department of the Sacramento County Office of Education and the Youth Inspire! Partnership Council. Council members include representatives from California Parks and Recreation Society, Elk Grove Unified School District, Folsom-Cordova Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, Sacramento City Department of Parks and Recreation, the Sacramento County Office of Education, and the San Juan Unified School District.

Nomination forms will be accepted through December 9, 2005. The 2005 nomination form is available online or by calling (916) 228-2200.
