Ten area high school and post-secondary educators were honored by the Capital Service Region (Region 3) of the California League of High Schools as nominees for statewide CLHS "Educator of the Year" at a dinner in Sacramento on April 23, 2004. The keynote speech at the dinner was Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David P. Meaney. The Capital Service Region CLHS includes Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba Counties.

According to David DeArcos, Trustee for the Capital Service Region CLHS and a member of the Antelope View Home Charter School staff, "each nominee exemplifies educational excellence and has made significant inroads to implement educational reforms in high schools and post-secondary education. All of the nominees have unique qualities, but all share a common passion for their students' success." Nominees were evaluated based on their leadership qualities, the ability to act as a high school change agent, and demonstration of exemplary characteristics.

The Capital Service Region "Educator of the Year" 2004, Jim Harold from Capitol Center MESA, and the representatives selected from the other ten state regions will be honored at the annual CLHS conference in Monterey this November.

Capital Service Region nominees included:

  • Jan Caldwell, 49er ROP at Lincoln high School
  • Jon Coleman, Grant High School
  • Lance de Gooyer, San Juan High School
  • Martin Flowers, Rocklin High School
  • Jim Harold, Capitol Center MESA
  • Nicole Naditz, Bella Vista High School
