Sacramento Kings Forward Visits Teacher of the Year Kathryn Allaman

March 8, 2002

Center Unified School District Teacher of the Year 2002 Kathryn Allaman had a taller-than-usual student in her high school math class on February 28.

Sacramento Kings player Predrag "Peja" Stojakovic visited Allaman's students at Center High School to help recognize her as Sacramento County Teacher of the Year 2002.

The six-foot, nine-inch tall Kings forward answered students' questions and participated in a basketball-based math lesson presented by Allaman.

As Stojakovic looked on, Allaman showed students how to use math to determine the "secret of Peja's success" as a three-point shooter. Stojakovic recently won the NBA three-point shootout during NBA All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia.

Stojakovic presented Allaman with an autographed Kings jersey, and he signed posters for her students. Allaman is one of two educators selected as Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2002. She was honored with all local Teachers of the Year at ARCO Arena February 19 during halftime of the Sacramento Kings vs. Atlanta Hawks game.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools Dr. David P. Meaney joined "Peja" in honoring Kathryn Allaman as Teacher of the Year.

The Sacramento Kings have presented the annual Sacramento County Teachers of the Year program for more than a decade. This year, with the sponsor support of NECA, Inc., the Sacramento Kings are making classroom visits to the two Sacramento County Teachers of the Year. Sacramento County's other Teacher of the Year 2002, Sheryl Sorensen of Natomas Unified School District, was visited by Stojakovic on January 29.
