Recommended Plugins and Applications
While we have made every effort to create a site accessible by multiple browsers and computer platforms, some information may require additional browser plugins and/or helper applications. The following items may be necessary to access content on the site:
QuickTime—software for handling video, sound, animation, graphics, text, music, and 360-degree virtual reality scenes. A gateway for rich media including images, music, MIDI, MP3 and more, QuickTime lets you experience hundreds of types of digital media with Mac OS or Windows-based computers. QuickTime is used throughout this site to provide audio and video content and virtual reality tours. Determine if you have QuickTime installed.
Adobe Reader—software for accessing and printing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files on most major computer platforms, as well as filling in and printing PDF forms. The software allows users to easily view documents that retain their formatting across platforms, appearing exactly like the author intended. PDF files are used throughout this site for printable forms, downloadable documents, and online archives of printed materials. If you are unable to download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader, you may use
Adobe's online conversion tools to convert show the text included in PDF documents.
Flash—software that allows you to view vector images, animations, and video. Small file sizes, quick downloads, and crisp, smooth edges make Flash content useful. Flash is used primarily for animated slide shows, banners, and graphics. Check which version of Flash your computer has.
StuffIt Expander—SCOE occassionally makes very large files available for download over the Internet. This free application, available for Mac OS and Windows-based IBM PC Compatible computers, allows you to decompress multiple file compression types including ".sit", ".sea", ".hqx", ".tar", and ".zip" files.
Browsers and RSS Readers
Every effort has been made to create an accessible and standards compliant site that can be used with most browsers. For best results accessing this site (and any other Web site), we recommend that you use the latest version of a modern, W3C standards compliant Web browser like Apple Safari or Mozilla FireFox.
To make it easy for visitors to know when something new is happening at SCOE, we provide an
RSS feed of recently posted news articles. If your Web browser does not include RSS reader capabilities or you want a program that is more full-featured, you may need additional RSS reader software such as NetNewsWire for Mac OS or FeedDemon for Windows. Find others at VersionTracker.
