Training Module 1: Overview of AT for Young Children

The module on “Overview of AT for Young Children” includes an introduction of assistive technology for young children with disabilities and their families. Topics covered are: definitions, guiding principles, best practice, research in the field, an overview of the subsequent training modules, profiles of the case studies, and suggested websites for more information.

Training Module 2: AT and Assessment

The module on “AT and Assessment” addresses the processes of early assessment to determine appropriate assistive technology applications for infants and toddlers with disabilities.

Training Module 3: AT and Communication

The module on “AT and Communication” addresses how to support early communication development using assistive technology and augmentative communication methods.

Training Module 4: AT and Emergent Literacy for Infants/Toddlers

The module on “AT and Emergent Literacy” addresses how to access literature through the use of AT including such adaptations as positioning, page turners, modifications to books, creating books (baggie books), computer software with switch access.

Training Module 5: AT and Play

The module on “AT and Play” includes an introduction of assistive technology and play for young children with disabilities and their families.

Training Module 6: AT and Computers

The module on “AT and Computers” addresses how to access the computer through the use of AT including such adaptations as positioning, touch screens, switches and software.
