The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is implementing a statewide initiative, Preschools SHINE (Shaping Healthy Impressions through Nutrition and Exercise), in Sacramento County. Preschools SHINE is a statewide recognition program that recognizes preschool programs that demonstrate optimal health, nutrition, and physical activity policies and practices that support children's health and readiness to learn.
Preschools SHINE is a voluntary program for programs that serve preschool-aged children and are enrolled in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Preschools SHINE, with funding from the California Department of Education - Nutrition Services Division, provides support to participating programs through on-site coaching and targeted training. A team, consisting of a Project Specialist and Registered Dietitian, offers technical assistance, strategically focused training, tools and resources, and coaching support to promote high quality child nutrition and wellness environments.

Preschools SHINE is a voluntary program for public and private child care centers and family child care homes that serve preschool-aged children (2-5 years) and are enrolled in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
