Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an elective and school-wide system that promotes increased college eligibility and access to rigorous curriculum. The AVID elective offers students a clear-cut path to college, beginning in their middle school years. Trained tutors, participation in rigorous academic classes, the AVID elective curriculum, and the AVID elective social support structure prepare students for academic success. The school-wide system restructures the teaching methodology of the school to make college preparatory curricula accessible to almost all students. AVID supports staff with an articulated professional development program including quarterly workshops, summer institute training, coaching, mentoring and technical support.

Capital Metro Area AVID serves middle and high schools in Region III that offer AVID elective and school-wide systems, and schools interested in developing AVID elective and school-wide systems. Specific professional support via workshops and conferences are made available to AVID District Directors, AVID elective teachers (coordinators), and AVID site team members. Technical support and coaching are also provided to AVID sites and staff.
