SCOE Leading Administrator Training For 14-County Regional Group

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) will be a regional leader for the statewide 21st Century California School Leadership Academy (21CSLA) program. Called SCOE 21CSLA, the regional group is one of seven Regional Academies across California tasked with reigniting the state’s effort to support and enhance the knowledge, skills, and capacity of education leaders.

The California Department of Education (CDE), the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), and the State Board of Education (SBE) awarded more than $5 million in funding to the SCOE School of Education to support ongoing, high-level leadership training through the new program, which will serve central office leaders, site leaders, and teacher leaders across a 14-county Placer-Sacramento regional area.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon emphasized the importance of the program, saying, “Strong school leadership is a key predictor of student achievement, and highly skilled leadership is critical to successful improvement efforts for local schools and districts. 21CSLA allows SCOE and the leaders within the Placer-Sacramento Region to engage in the high-quality leadership development needed to transform schools and meet the needs of all students.”

Steven Winlock, Ed.D., Executive Director of the SCOE School of Education. “We are excited and ready to support the work of aspiring and existing leaders in improving campus culture and climate, creating equitable student outcomes, and ultimately boosting success for all students, schools, and districts.”

SCOE 21CSLA Offering Three Sequences for Administrators

The SCOE 21CSLA Regional Academy is offering three unique professional learning opportunities focused on building the leadership capacity of participants:

  • Professional development modules to expand skills based on local needs
  • Communities of practice for groups of administrators with similar responsibilities
  • Leadership coaching to provide individualized support

The professional learning opportunities are provided at no cost to participants from eligible schools and districts, and will help develop skills, knowledge, and behaviors to help leaders meet the needs of all students, ultimately creating more equitable outcomes.

Information about the training opportunities is being distributed to county offices of education, school districts, and educators throughout the region. The deadline to register is December 11, 2020, and the three sequences start in January 2021. Participants may register for any or all of the three sequences.
