Thirteen young adult students from across the county received certificates of completion from the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Foundations Academy at ceremonies held last week on May 8 and 9.
The SCOE Special Education Department operates the Foundations Academy, which provides education services to students (ages three to 22) who require extensive visual, mobility, and speech/language support. Many students who complete the program start in SCOE’s Infant Development Program and continue in the Foundations Academy through young adulthood.
During the ceremonies, which were held at the SCOE Conference Center, Sacramento County Board of Education Trustee Paul Keefer, MBA, Ed.D., joined Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon in recognizing students. The County Superintendent acknowledged the unwavering support of families and the resilience they showed in helping students navigate life’s challenges. “Today is a significant milestone for each of these students as they work towards their goals,” he said. “Through their hard work, determination, and perseverance, they are moving on to the next chapter in their lives.”
SCOE’s Special Education Department provides services in 40 classrooms at more than 20 sites across local school districts. It also provides services at El Centro Jr./Sr. High School (SCOE’s Juvenile Court School), in partnership with the Sacramento County Probation Department.
