March 2, 2021 is the deadline to submit FAFSA or Dream Act applications. The Cash for College workshops offer help completing financial aid forms and scholarship applications.

Do you or a student you know need money for college? How about help filling out all those financial aid forms?

If so, consider participating in one of the free Cash for College workshops being held in the Sacramento region. Trained volunteers will be helping students and families learn how to file for state and federal financial aid, including FAFSA, Dream Act, and Chafee Grant applications.

The California Student Aid Commission sponsors the annual workshops, and the Sacramento Cal-SOAP Consortium (California Student Opportunity Access Program) at the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is the local coordinator. Cal-SOAP directly serves students in 55 elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Sacramento County.

Virtual Cash for College Workshops

Register online for the Cash for College Workshop being held for your local school (under the “Upcoming Workshops” section of the Cash for College website). Due to COVID-19, this year’s workshops are being conducted virtually.

October 2020

What to Prepare Before the Workshop

Families should plan to have the following materials available:

  • A list of colleges you are interested in, along with your potential housing plans
  • Student Social Security number and driver’s license number (or government-issued ID), if available
  • Parent Social Security numbers, if available
  • Parent federal income tax returns for 2019 tax year
  • Records of untaxed income (such as child support, TANF, interest income, veteran’s non-educational benefits, or social security benefits)
  • Bank account records or statements
  • Records of stocks, bonds, or investments, if applicable
  • Business records, if applicable
  • Student 2019 federal income tax return, or evidence of income earned (Form W-2 or pay records), if applicable
  • If not a U.S. citizen, have alien registration card, if available
