Video Details Rights of Students Experiencing Homelessness

Project TEACH Creates Helpful Resource for Families

You CAN Enroll in School: schools helping students experiencing homelessness

SCOE’s Project TEACH has produced an instructional video that explains educational rights to families.

While local school districts are resuming classes remotely this fall, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) wants to remind families experiencing homelessness that their children have legally protected educational rights—whether on-campus or online. School districts and county offices of education must ensure access to free and appropriate public education.

SCOE’s Project TEACH—a long-running program that provides support and technical assistance to local district and charter school staff—has produced an instructional video that explains educational rights to families. The 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) makes this an especially timely resource.

School districts, shelters, and agencies offering assistance to students experiencing homelessness are encouraged to consider using this video as they help inform families of the educational rights of children.

Education Contacts in Sacramento County

Each school district has a homeless education liaison. Families should contact the appropriate person at their local school district or charter school for information about services and for assistance with school-related needs.
