The transition from high school to the real world can be a difficult and stressful time for many students—especially those graduating from special education and community school settings. Dozens of students attending Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) programs participated Wednesday in a transition resource fair, learning about programs and services available to them—both now and after high school.
Representatives from local organizations visited the Leo A. Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School campus for the annual Transition Resource Fair, offering information and support to students. The services they highlighted ranged from education and training to job placement and housing programs. Transition planning helps students prepare for life during after high school graduation. The process can include preparing for post-secondary education, vocational training, supported employment, continuing and adult education, independent living, and community participation.
SCOE’s annual transition resource fair promotes advocacy and helps students identify many of the opportunities available to them after high school. The event, organized by SCOE’s WorkAbility school-to-world program, brings agencies into the school setting for easy access for students, parents/guardians, and teachers.
