Communications Office Wins National Awards for 2017–18

The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) has honored the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Communications Office with several national awards. NSPRA conducts its Publications and Digital Media Awards competition annually. For 2017–18, there were more than 1,000 entries, with 648 entries receiving recognition.

NSPRA’s mission is to advance education through responsible communication. Since 1935, the organization has provided school communications training and services to education leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and schools worldwide.

About the SCOE Communications Office

The SCOE Communications Office provides communication services to support SCOE’s programs and services. It assists school districts in Sacramento County with strategic communications and media outreach, and serves as a key disseminator of information to educators and community leaders countywide.

Communications Office staff members include Tim Herrera, Director; Trisha Odin, Program Analyst; Melanie Slootweg, Program Manager; Charlene VanAllen, Communications Manager; and John Woodward, Multimedia Design Specialist. Communications Office retirees Beth Flory and Cathy Sapunor also played important roles in the Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2018 program.
