For the fourth year in a row, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting a Substitute Recruitment Day in an effort to recruit potential candidates interested in employment opportunities in the education field.

The day-long recruitment event will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at the David P. Meaney Education Center, located at 10474 Mather Boulevard, in Mather [driving directions], from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning with a ninety-minute information session at 9:00 a.m.

Applicants for both teacher and para-educator positions are encouraged to learn more about this rewarding experience that provides a valuable service to a diverse population of students, as well as a flexible schedule. For additional information about being a SCOE susbstitute, visit the Personnel Department's substitute overview and orientation page.

Teachers must have a valid California teaching credential,
30-day California Substitute Teaching Permit, or possess a B.A. degree and have passed the CBEST (California Basic Education Skills Test).

Para-educators must have a high school diploma. A para-educator is a school employee who works under the supervision of a certificated or licensed staff member to support and assist in providing instructional and other direct services to children, youth, and families. Para-educators play an important role in providing educational opportunities to students in our local schools. SCOE's highest need for paraprofessional educators is within its Severely Handicapped Programs.

During SCOE's Substitute Recruitment Day, prospective substitute teacher and para-educator applicants will be able to take advantage of on-site interviews and testing, as well as meet with recruiters from various SCOE programs:

  • Juvenile Court Schools
  • Community Schools
  • Special Education for Students with Emotional Disabilities
  • Special Education for Students with Severe Handicaps

Candidates are encouraged to submit applications online prior to the event by creating an account and applying for the "Substitute Teacher" and/or "Substitute Para-Educator" positions. Applications may also be submitted at the event.
