Early Childhood Education Conference to Be Held in Sacramento

The Sacramento County Office of Education is proud to co-sponsor the 17th Northern California Early Childhood Education (NCECE) Conference, scheduled for August 7-8, 2006, at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West.

Whitcomb Hayslip, coordinator of Infant and Preschool Education Programs for the Los Angeles Unified School District, will serve as the conference keynote speaker. Mr. Hayslip has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than thirty years. His keynote speech topic: "Meeting the Diverse Needs of Children through the Early Childhood Curriculum."

Other presentations include some of the following topics:

  • Expanding Vocabulary through Shared Language Experience
  • Red Flags for Developmental Delay, Birth to Three
  • Extreme Adventures: Parent Literacy Night
  • Music for Literacy - Music for Fun - Music for Life
  • Exploring Different Learning Styles for Children's Success

The NCECE Committee is also announcing something new: a "Make It and Take It!" evening session. The staff has selected several hands-on projects which conference attendees may take home with them. This special session is offered to all conference attendees at no additional charge. Childcare providers, who are not able to attend the conference during the day, are invited to attend the evening session for a small fee of $10, which will be collected at the door.

The event will run on Monday, August 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., the evening session from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, August 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

One unit of college credit for attendance at this conference will be available through California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) for $55. Interested attendees must sign up and pay for the unit Monday morning, August 7 at 7:30 a.m.
