SCOE News

Several hundred middle and high school students, parents, and staff attended the annual Friday Night Live/Club Live awards ceremony at the Scottish Rite Temple on Monday, 13 May. The event was held to recognize participants in the Friday Night and Club Live programs.

Jim Kooler, Director of the Governor's Mentoring Partnership, opened the program and thanked students and staff for their hard work and dedication. Also in attendance were Sacramento County Assistant Superintendent Joyce Wright and Sacramento County Board of Education Trustee Elinor Hickey.

Project Specialist Joelle Orrock, who coordinates the Friday Night Live and Club Live programs, was the emcee for the evening. Along with her staff, Orrock recognized the many students, advisors, and leaders who participated in the Friday Night Live and Club Live programs during the 2001-2002 school year.

Speakers during the evening included Brian Hill from the Friday Night Live County Youth Council, Shanah McKnight from Sheldon High School, Christie Yamazaki from Christian Brothers High School, Amanda O'Dell from Don Julio Junior High School, and Jill Christensen from Highlands High School.

Students from Joseph Kerr Middle School and Harriet Eddy Middle School provided entertainment during the program by giving two separate lip sync performances. The performances had placed first and second, respectively, in the Club Live "Lip Sync Contest."

Students screamed and cheered as familiar faces appeared in a "Year in Pictures" photo presentation that concluded the program.
