Sacramento, CA—The Sacramento County Board of Education expresses deep appreciation to David W. The Board commends Superintendent Gordon for his visionary leadership, steady governance, and enduring commitment to students, educators, and families throughout Sacramento County and across California.

Board President Mariana Corona Sabeniano stated:

During Gordon’s tenure, SCOE earned recognition as California’s 2025 Large County Office of the Year and became a model for collaboration, fiscal stewardship, and instructional leadership. Under his guidance, SCOE launched major initiatives such as SCOE’s School of Education, Adult Re Entry, Sacramento County READS, Schools as Centers of Wellness, the Landscape Analysis – Understanding the School Experiences of Black Students in Sacramento County, and the Career Pipeline, all of which strengthened educational outcomes and expanded support for students, educators, and families.

His leadership has set a standard for public service rooted in collaboration and compassion. We are proud to have worked alongside him and will continue building upon the foundation he established.”

The Sacramento County Board of Education will begin the process of selecting the next County Superintendent of Schools. The Board is committed to conducting a transparent, inclusive, and seamless process that engages stakeholders and ensures continuity of SCOE’s mission and progress.

“We recognize the importance of thoughtful leadership succession,” President Corona Sabeniano said. “Our goal is to identify a leader who will continue advancing excellence, equity, and opportunity for every student in Sacramento County.”
