Sacramento, CA—The California County Superintendents association has announced that the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) has been awarded the leadership award for the “2025 Large County Office of the Year.” The honor was presented during the organization’s annual awards reception on September 30, 2025.
El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, Ed Manansala, Ed.D., presented the award, recognizing SCOE for dedication to collaboration and leadership. Dr. Manansala cited examples of SCOE’s leadership, including hosting critical meetings with legislators, providing technical assistance, and serving as a trusted hub for county offices, state agencies, and local partners.
Twelve of the largest counties in California were eligible, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Joaquin, and Santa Clara.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition on behalf of the Sacramento County Office of Education,” said Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon. “This award reflects the dedication of our entire SCOE team, who work tirelessly to support students, families, and educators across Sacramento County, our region, and statewide. Together, we remain committed to innovative practices, advancing equity, expanding opportunities, and preparing all students for success in school and in life.”
The California County Superintendents presents annual awards that are aligned with the priorities of the organization, and competitive in the national awards program operated by the national Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA). Criteria include demonstrated excellence in executive leadership, professional publications, technological innovation, and advancing initiatives that support the whole child, students with disabilities, equity and inclusion, the arts, and other statewide priorities. Winners are selected by a statewide awards committee of county superintendents.
