Time magazine declared Sacramento as "America's most integrated city" in 2002, the schools in Sacramento County have continued to reflect this richness in diversity. The 13 school districts in Sacramento County enroll substantial numbers of English Learners (EL), also known as Limited-English Proficient (LEP) students.
Although this population is linguistically diverse with students representing more than 55 language groups, more than half of the English Learners speak Spanish as their first language.
