The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County.

Classified Employee of the Month

Wade Adams, a Para-Educator, was nominated by Principal Linda Mitchell for his contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Adams works with students and staff of Carson Creek Jr.-Sr. High School, which is operated by SCOE within the Sacramento County Probation Department's Sacramento County Boys' Ranch. He is a valuable member of the instructional team of SCOE's Manufacturing Technology: Metals ROP (Regional Occupational Program) on the campus. Mr. Adams contributes greatly to the success of the program, which is being recognized as an Honorable Mention entry in the California School Boards Association Golden Bell Awards competition. He has assisted in the building of this highly technical, results-oriented program, which was established as a joint venture partnership between the Sacramento County Probation Department and the Sacramento County Office of Education. In his role as Para-Educator, Mr. Adams works with 25-30 students every day. He assists student groups initially in learning about safety. Once students have received their shop safety certificate, they move on to mastering content knowledge and skills. His supervisor says, "Wade is skillful in working with the at-risk student population and is himself a skilled welder. Because of the technical environment of the shop, the program could not be delivered without the support of such a competent Para-Educator." Mr. Adams has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since September 2000.

Certificated Employee of the Month

Jolene King, a Speech, Language and Hearing Specialist, was nominated by Principal Sharon Holstege for her contributions to the Special Education Department of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. King is a Language, Speech, and Hearing Specialist providing support to children with significant disabilities in SCOE's Special Education programs at Sheldon High School and Smedberg Middle School programs, as well as SCOE's Galt and Walnut Grove preschool programs. Her students benefit from her extensive knowledge of alternative communication systems to help them communicate. She uses a variety of strategies such as pictures and augmentative communication devices. Ms. King is a life-long learner, constantly adding to her knowledge and skills. According to her supervisor, "Jolene has high standards for herself and for her students. She works extremely well with families, providing ideas and strategies for parents to use with their child in the home setting." Ms. King has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since July 1998.
