Board Recognizes June 2004 Employees of the Month

​The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County.

Classified Employee of the Month

Lynn McGroarty, a Financial Analyst in District Fiscal Services, was nominated by Coordinator Debbie Spurlock for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. McGroarty is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the school districts in Sacramento County. She reconciles district cash each month and performs audits of accounts payable warrants for both districts and SCOE. Because of her extensive knowledge of school district accounting procedures, Ms. McGroarty is someone to whom staff and districts turn for assistance and advice. Her supervisor commends Ms. McGroarty for her "pleasant personality and helpful nature," which benefit SCOE "and all who are fortunate to work with her." Ms. McGroarty has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since February 1990.

Certificated Employee of the Month

Fred Castillo, a Teacher in Juvenile Court Schools, was nominated by Principal Joe Taylor for his contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Castillo works with students at Carson Creek Jr.-Sr. High School, which is located at the Sacramento County Boys Ranch facility operated by the Sacramento County Probation Department. Mr. Castillo serves as Teacher-in-Charge at the campus, providing leadership to staff and students alike. According to his supervisor, Mr. Castillo "has always utilized good judgment and excellent problem-solving skills," attributes that have proven valuable on both a daily basis and during times of transition and change. His genuine concern for Carson Creek students is evident, says his supervisor, making him "an asset to SCOE and the Carson Creek team." Mr. Castillo has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since November 2000.
