AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a proven college-readiness system, part of the national AVID Center, that is designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in postsecondary education. Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. The formula is simple: raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge.
AVID is implemented in 4,800 schools in 48 states, the District of Columbia and 16 countries/territories. It serves more than 425,000 students. Schools and districts have taken AVID methodologies and strategies and implemented them school-wide and district-wide to impact their entire communities and create articulated programs for college success.
What differentiates the AVID College Readiness System from other educational reform efforts is its data collection and success rates. Annual AVID Senior Data collection reports:
- 99% of the AVID Class of 2014 Graduated High School
- 92% Completed Four-Year College Requirements
- 91% Plan to Attend College
- 61% Plan to Attend a Four-Year College
- 30% Plan to Attend a Two-Year College
