Teachers of the Year 2019 Honored by River Cats

Fans Cheer for Teachers at April 7 Game

Baseball fans at Raley Field cheered as the Sacramento River Cats paid tribute to the district Teachers of the Year 2019 in a pre-game ceremony this weekend.

Reigning Sacramento County Teacher of the Year Michael J. Steele (AP calculus teacher at Franklin High School, EGUSD) sang the national anthem and threw a ceremonial first pitch. Twin Rivers Teacher of the Year Julie Harms (second grade teacher at Regency Park Elementary) also threw a ceremonial pitch.

After the on-field ceremony on April 7, the River Cats hosted honorees and their guests to a reception where teachers received words of praise from Al Rogers, Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Deputy Superintendent of Schools; Chris Roe, Director of Teacher Induction, SCOE School of Education; and Greg Coletti, River Cats Vice President of Corporate Sponsorships. This is the fourteenth year the River Cats have recognized the area’s top teachers.
