Families at SCOE School Get Dinners for Thanksgiving 2018

Staff From North Area Community School Organizes 7th Annual Effort

Students and their families received free turkeys, traditional holiday side dishes, and pies today as part of a festive annual tradition at North Area Community School, a Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) program. Thanks to supportive school staff and several charitable organizations, nearly 65 students and their families received donated Thanksgiving meals courtesy of the 7th annual holiday food drive.

The donated meals were made possible thanks to the following:

  • Costco
  • Raley’s (Marconi Ave. & Natomas Blvd.)
  • Sacramento County Probation Department
  • Safeway
  • Target (Fulton Ave., Madison Ave., & North Freeway Blvd.)
  • Walmart (Antelope Rd., Truxel Rd., & Riverpoint Ct.)

North Area Community School provides students an opportunity to continue their education and experience significant positive personal change in their lives. Although community school programs focus on academic success, the development of positive interpersonal skills and positive social interactions with peers and adults are important components of the school’s program.

Most of the students educated in the community schools have been referred by their local districts as a condition of being readmitted following their expulsion from school. A community school’s smaller environment and dedicated instructional and support staff also allow each student to benefit from a more personal learning experience.
