2018 Resource Fair Benefits Parolees and Probationers

Nearly 70 Providers Share Helpful Information

Resources to help parolees and probationers make successful transitions to life beyond prison are often difficult to find. Today, though, hundreds of individuals formerly incarcerated in the Sacramento area had the opportunity to attend a resource fair just for them. They learned about services and resources available to help them make a successful transition back into society.

The Sacramento Community Based Coalition (SCBC), one of the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Adult Re-Entry Programs, partnered with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) to host today’s event.

The well-attended event provided one-stop shopping for an array of services to help connect the formerly incarcerated with a successful transition back into society. There were nearly 70 providers focused on a variety of topics including housing, substance abuse, education/literacy, vocational training, employment, colleges, child support, family law, voluntary legal services, tattoo removal, mentoring, and health/dental care.

The fair was open to Sacramento County parolees and probationers and SCBC clients. SCOE’s Adult Re-Entry Programs (including SCBC) are offered at sites in Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo Counties. They are designed to assist men and women re-entering the community from prison or jail. Participants include men and women parolees who have been referred by their parole agent. The participants are eligible to receive educational assistance with literacy and math skills, GED and high school diplomas, substance abuse education, vocational training referrals, and more.
