2018 School-to-World Awards Honor Students

Businesses Also Recognized for Contributions to Workforce Preparation

Moving from school to the adult world is a big transition for young people. For many teens, finding that first job experience is challenging. The School-to-World program provides that opportunity and on May 7, students and staff from several Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) programs celebrated their successes at the 24th Annual School-to-World Awards ceremony.

The School-to-World program is a partnership between SCOE and area businesses. The joint venture offers students valuable entry-level job experience, connections with local business professionals, an opportunity for immediate use of newly acquired job skills, and an active way to learn social skills. Students from Elinor L. Hickey Jr./Sr. High School, Leo A. Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School, and North Area Community School were recognized, as were the numerous businesses that provided students with employment opportunities.

The program provides the services, support system and opportunities that most at-risk students need to be ready for college and/or the workforce. The participating campuses are operated by SCOE for students with specialized learning needs. Services are tailored to individual students based on their specific needs instead of through traditional, scripted education.
