2018 County Classified Employees of the Year Announced

Winners Advance to State Competition

David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, has officially announced the names of the five Sacramento County Classified Employees of the Year for 2018. The employees will now move on to represent the county in the state Classified School Employees of the Year competition.

  • Sara Dunn, San Juan Unified School District (Office/Technical Category)
  • Breta Noguez, Twin Rivers Unified School District (Paraprofessional Educator/Instructional Assistance Category)
  • Erika Saber, Twin Rivers Unified School District (Transportation Category)
  • Ruben Santos, Twin Rivers Unified School District (Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities Category)
  • Debra Teel, Twin Rivers Unified School District (Support Services and Security Category)

District and County Office of Education staff from five of the six state categories competed in the county competition this year. A selection committee, made up of representatives from the participating districts, chose one winner from each category to represent Sacramento County at the state level. The county selection process involved paper screening and formal interviews. Winners were selected for exemplary performance of responsibilities that contribute to the success of district programs, services, or special projects.

“Whether they work in the background or on the frontlines, our classified employees keep us going strong,” said Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon. “We can’t thank them enough because they are such an important part of the education experience.”

Classified Employees to Be Recognized at June River Cats Game

The Sacramento River Cats have partnered with SCOE to honor all classified school employees at the home game on Friday, June 8. The five County Classified Employees of the Year will be recognized on the field before the game. Tickets to the Classified School Employee Appreciation Night game (against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox) are available to order online.

California Competition

A California Department of Education (CDE) committee will now evaluate nominations statewide. The overall objective is to acknowledge and promote the efforts of outstanding classified (non-certificated) school employees. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson is expected to announce the recipients of the state awards in April. State winners are typically honored at a luncheon in Sacramento during Classified School Employee Week, celebrated May 20–26, 2018.
