High School Graduation Held on 12/4/18 for SCOE Students

Court School and Community Schools Students Receive Diplomas

In a mid-year graduation, held yesterday at the Sierra Health Foundation, 20 Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) students from multiple schools were recognized with high school diplomas. The students earned diplomas through SCOE’s Senior Extension Program.

About the Senior Extension Program

Senior Extension involves a combination of independent study and classroom work that allows students to earn credits while also meeting work and family obligations—things that would otherwise have prevented them from completing their high school education. The program gives teenagers more time to earn their diplomas, providing them with more opportunities to succeed in life.

SCOE launched Senior Extension in 2016 to re-engage students who are in jeopardy of dropping out of high school or who have been out of school and want to return to complete requirements for their diplomas. Students are referred to the program by their home districts and receive personalized education plans, allowing them to earn the credits required for graduation.

Senior Extension is offered at the following SCOE school sites: North Area Community School, Gerber Jr./Sr. High School, and Elinor Lincoln Hickey Jr./Sr. High School. Services are also offered in Galt.
