The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is proud to announce that the SCOE Leadership Institute, a collaboration with local school districts that prepares and supports aspiring education leaders, will be honored at the 34th Annual Golden Bell Awards program of the California School Boards Association (CSBA).
The highly respected Golden Bell Award will be presented at a special ceremony during CSBA's Awards Luncheon at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina on Saturday, December 7, 2013. The event is held in conjunction with the California School Boards Association's Annual Education Conference.
"We developed our Leadership Institute to provide cutting edge training, on all levels, to meet the needs of our local schools and districts," said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools. "To date, we have graduated nearly 175 strong leaders who are setting high standards, promoting excellent teaching, and motivating students and teachers."
SCOE's Leadership Institute is a year-long program focused on training aspiring administrators to fill the expected need for highly qualified and trained administrators. In addition to aspiring administrators, the Institute is designed to help train newly appointed administrators with one or two years of experience, continuing administrators with three or more years of experience, as well as established district administrators. The Institute supports the development of the skills administrators need to provide leadership at school sites and in district administration.
"We are so fortunate to have good working relationships with our partner districts, which helped to make this wonderful leadership program possible," said Board of Education President Jacquelyn Levy. "In addition, we have the ongoing support of district staff, faculty and education community leaders who all work together to make the Institute successful."
"It is a great honor for SCOE to receive the Golden Bell Award," said Dr. L. Steven Winlock, Leadership Institute Executive Director. "It is a validation that our program is recognized for supporting and promoting the success of promising education leaders in our region."
The CSBA Golden Bell Awards program promotes excellence in education by recognizing outstanding programs in school districts and county offices of education throughout California. The goal of this awards program is to contribute to the development and evaluation of curriculum, instruction and support services.
SCOE is offering two Leadership Institute cohorts for the 2013–14 school year, with one group meeting at the County Office and the other being operated at the Elk Grove Unified School District headquarters. SCOE also will coordinate a similar program with the Shasta County Office of Education.
This is the seventh Golden Bell Award for the Sacramento County Office of Education. Other SCOE programs earning the award included:
