English Language Arts: Grades 4 and 5
There is an insufficiency of instructional materials for Grades 4 and 5 English language arts in that the version of Open Court Anthology 4, Book 1 and Book 2, and Anthology 5, Book 1 and Book 2 are from an old adoption prior to the adoption of English language arts content standards. Additionally, the Spelling and Vocabulary books are not the adopted Open Court materials, but rather Houghton Mifflin.
While there is a sufficient number of English language arts textbooks for the students enrolled in Grades 4 and 5, because of the age of the materials found in this classroom, we believe the textbooks may not be consistent with content and cycle of the state curriculum frameworks and State Board adopted content standards.
Mathematics: Grades 4 and 5
There is an insufficiency of instructional materials for Grades 4 and 5 mathematics. The mathematics textbooks used were aligned to academic content standards one grade level below the grade of the class. Thus, the students did not have sufficient grade level materials.
