What is CAL-SOAP?
The California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) was established by the state legislature in 1978 to improve access to information about postsecondary education and financial aid and to raise the achievement levels of students (both low-income and those under-represented at the university level).
Today, Cal-SOAP projects operate in 17 locations throughout California. The Sacramento Cal-SOAP project provides classroom tutoring to students in over 80 AVID classrooms throughout Sacramento County and, working collaboratively with Sacramento State University, American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College, provides classroom workshops and intensive college advising to juniors and seniors in 9 area schools.
