The Sacramento County Local Child Care and Development Planning Council is responsible for coordinating issues related to quality child care and the availability of child care services, identifying gaps in child care services, and developing priorities for the most under-served areas/communities in child care services. The council developed priorities for funding of subsidized child care program services in Sacramento County for 2012–2017. The priorities have been approved by both the County Board of Education and the Board of Supervisors, and (as required by law) sent on to the Early Education and Support Division of the California Department of Education.

Participants​​

The Sacramento County Local Child Care and Development Planning Council is comprised of 20 members in five specified categories pursuant to California Education Code § 8499.3–§ 8499.7 and appointed by the County Board of Education and Board of Supervisors. Categories include: consumer, child care provider, public agency representative, community representative, and board discretion. The Council serves all of Sacramento County.

Promoting Excellence in Child Care and Education: A Five-Year Plan for Child Care and Development in Sacramento County 2012–2017
The Child Care Strategic Plan, developed by the Sacramento County Local Child Care and Development Planning Council, serves as a resource on early care and education in Sacramento County. This document identifies key elements of early care and education in Sacramento County and the Council's policy recommendations for addressing the issues emerging from the key elements. Partners​​

Partners in the Local Child Care Planning and Development Council include public and private providers of child care services, and representatives from school districts, the community college district, and Sacramento County agencies.
