The Credentials Unit provides licensing expertise to the 13 school districts, as well as regional occupational programs, in Sacramento County. The department provides assistance in analysis and processing of applications for credentials, certificates, and permits; issues temporary county certificates; responds to general credentialing information inquiries; and serves as liaison between the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and the districts and programs of the County.
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to recommend applicants for Designated Subjects Credentials and the Credential Unit processes these credential applications.
The Credentials Unit is also mandated by law to audit teacher assignments, register, and certify the credentials, certificates, and permits held or applied for by all certificated personnel employed in the County's school districts and vocational programs and to report these findings to CTC on an annual basis.
General credentialing information can be obtained by visiting the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing at their website. This site contains specifics on how to apply for a California credential; fee and fingerprint information, credential applications and forms, information leaflets, manual and handbooks, other useful topics and links.
