The primary responsibilities of the Sacramento County Committee on School District Organization are the reorganization of school districts (through territory transfers and unification) and the establishment/rearrangement of governing board trustee areas in the school districts based upon valid citizen petitions or petitions by the governing boards of the affected school districts. Staff to the County Committee serve as a resource for county school districts and residents in school district organization issues, as well as a research staff for the County Committee. Staff provides the County Committee with information necessary for its functions, including information required by statute; develops and maintains maps and descriptions of school district boundaries and trustee areas; and coordinates County Committee actions with appropriate state, county, and local agencies.
The Sacramento County Committee is comprised of the seven trustees of the Sacramento County Board of Education. Pursuant to the California Education Code, the County Committee has jurisdiction in matters related to the reorganization of the 13 school districts located in the County of Sacramento.
