Program Philosophy
The Torrance Unified School District’s LAUNCH Preschool Program is a behaviorally, language, play and sensory based program which provides individually tailored services needed to help prepare children for a successful “LAUNCH” into Kindergarten. LAUNCH’s transdisciplinary staff is committed to working with parents as partners in order to help find the most effective way to aid their children in reaching their full potential.
LAUNCH believes in the importance and value of early childhood intervention; the importance and value of team work and collaboration; the commitment to working with parents as partners and treating families, children and fellow staff with respect and dignity; and the commitment to hire high quality staff who are dedicated to working with preschool children.
What is Offered
- Ongoing proactive development of programs & services for children
- Transdisciplinary Team assessments & IEP’s conducted in partnership with families
- A very high adult-to-student ratio with three EA ’s in each classroom
- Classes that are non-categorical in their student make-up
- Provide services & therapies in a teaming collaborative effort & often classroom based
- An open door policy to parents
- Parent conferences held three times a year
- Family and child-focused IEP ’s, which are often held in the student’s homes
- Staff who strive to form strong, trusting & informative relationships with families

- Autism Spectrum Services & Inclusion Support Torrance Team [ASSISTT] (Serves students 18 mos. through high school)
- Help Educate and Reach Torrance Tots [HEARTT] - (a TUSD program vendored by the Regional Center to provide in-home services for children 18 mos-to-five years of age)
- Parent Support (monthly Parent education meeting & intensive eight-week ‘STEP’ Program)
- Skills & Milestones In a Learning Environment [SMILE] – (small group ABA format)
- Transdisciplinary Preschool Team Assessments
- Specially designed extended day programs [TOPPS, SLIP]
- Conducting family focused IEP’s
- Program and service development and marketing

- Transition planning for children; transitioning from Infant-Toddler programs to LAUNCH services [best practices]
- Optimal collaboration, teaming and interconnectedness of all program disciplines [Teachers, SLP ’s OTR’s, ASSISTT, Paraprofessionals & APE]
- Home-Based Services [HBS]
- Classroom set-up, use of space & Preschool building design
- Use of an embedded Preschool curriculum [Carolina Curriculum]
- Balancing the demands of curriculum, theme-based activities and teaching to individual IEP goals and objectives
- Services and programs for serving children with a diagnosis of autism
- Cross-discipline co-treatments of students
