Project TEACH, SCOE receives generous donations for families from businesses, organizations, agencies, service clubs and individuals. For example, a service club donates backpacks with school supplies and children’s books on a regular basis. The employees of a local business fulfill the holiday gift wish list for many children.
Project TEACH assists in the coordination of events, which result in donations of basic need items for families and/or shelter agencies. For example, Feed The Children, Mather Community Campus (MCC), Project TEACH (SCOE) and the Office of First Lady Maria Shriver coordinated a September 14, 2005 event for families in Sacramento County. Project TEACH and MCC coordinated the participation of many of the shelter agencies (e.g., Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center, Cottage Housing, Diogenes Youth & Family Services, Travelers Aid Emergency Assistance Agency, St. John’s Shelter for Women & Children, etc.). The international organization, Feed The Children, delivered hundreds of boxes of school supplies, food and personal care products.
The annual Stuff The Bus campaign is designed to prepare the over 5,000 children who experience homelessness each year in Sacramento County for educational success. In addition, the school district homeless liaisons in surrounding counties are participants in the event. The campaign begins in mid-July with donations of new school supplies accepted at participating businesses until August 5th.The live broadcast of the stuffing of the buses with school supplies is by CW 31 (Good Day Sacramento) and CBS 13. For more information on donation locations, please visit CBS 13/CW31 from mid-July through August.
