R. J. KIRBY

We had received information that a R. J. Kirby was buried at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. When our project first started we could not find any evidence that he was buried in our Cemetery. Then the discovery was made. There was a known burial plot located in the Cemetery but it was listed, in Cemetery records, as "unknown" as to whom was buried there. The plot is located very close to the fence that is next to the Pleasant Grove School. Engraved on the coping, next to the fence, is the name " R. J. Kirby". What an exciting find this was for our class! We notified the Cemetery District immediately.

In researching R.J. Kirby we found him listed in the 1880 Census. He was living in the San Joaquin Township (Sheldon Area )as a border of a Thomas and Mary McLaughlin. At the time he was 51 yeas old and was listed as widowed. His occupation was listed as "carpenter". He was not listed in the 1990 Census. At this time we have not found any other information on R.J. Kirby.
