
Edward Healey lived three and a half miles from Elk Grove and eighteen miles from Sacramento. Mr.Healey owned 57 acres of land. He was born in England in 1826 and remained there until 1849. He was the son of John and Betsy Healey. His parents were cloth manufacturers. He engaged in manufacturing and railroading. He emigrated to the United States in 1849, settled in Massachusetts, where he engaged in railroading. He came to California / via Cape horn in 1851. He followed mining for about five years in El Dorado and Nevada Counties. He settled in Colusa County in 1855. He moved to Sacramento County in 1856 where he engaged in farming. He purchased his farming land for $3.50 per acre. Their property, with improvements, was worth about $1,100 in 1880. Mr. Healey lost 30,000 feet of lumber, fences and 90 heads of cattle in the great flood 1856. He worked as a rancher until 1863. When he did not ranch, he owned a business at Sheldon. In 1852 and 1853 Mr. Healey visited the World's fair at New York.
In Atlanta, Georgia in 1853, Edward married Miss Emilina Killingsworth, a native of North California. She died in 1868 at the age of 44. They had two boys and four girls.
