Catherine Garrett was the wife of Jacob Garrett. Catherine was a native of Schenectady County, New York. She was born in 1792 and died in May, 1888. She was 96 years old when she died. Jacob, her husband, was also a native of Schenectady County, New York. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 and he served under Benedict Arnold. For a time he resided on Hay Bay, near Kingston. Then at Thurlow, where Jacob owned a large farm. He then went to Whigby, thirty-six miles east of Toronto. Afterwards he removed again to Illinois. He died in Jones County, Iowa in 1869.
Samuel Garrett lived fifteen miles from Sacramento and three miles from Elk Grove, his post office. He was born in Canada West in 1824 and lived there until 1845. He then moved to Illinois, and remained there until 1864 and engaged in farming. He came to California and settled in this county (Sacramento) in 1864. He did farming and sheep-raising. He owned three hundred and twenty acres of land, worth, with improvements and live stock, about $12,000 in 1890. Mr. Garrett held the office of School Trustee nearly all the time since coming to the State. He was married in 1845 to Miss Silva Gillitt, also a native of Canada West. They had eight children - five boys and three girls.
Ulysses Garrett was born in 1870 in Elk Grove and died March 10, 1940. He was the brother of: Emma Garrett (Coons); Upton Garrett; Francis J. Garrett. Ulysses is probably the son of Samuel and Silva Garrett.
William Garrett died at the age of one year. Probably the son of Samuel and Silva Garrett. He has the oldest death date of any person buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Catherine Garrett was the mother of S. Garrett (probably Samuel) and N. Garrett. She died at the age of 96 years.
