Mrs. Amanda M. Evans lived 16 miles from Sacramento, and three miles from Elk Grove. She owned one hundred and eighty acres of land. She was born in 1831 in Tennessee. When quite young she moved with her parents to Alabama and lived there until 1839. In that year she and her parents moved to Missouri. She was married April 23, 1846 to John O. Devin and lived in Missouri until 1856, when they came to California and settled in Sacramento county. According to the 1870 Census they had seven children. Their names were William B., Dennis, Jane, Charles, Bricannia, Adolphius, and Alvin. Mr. Devin died on December 22, 1873. He is one of only two people buried at the Cemetery that has both a head stone and a foot stone.
Amanda was again married to William A Jenkins, also buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery (Spelled William A Jinkins). He died April 28, 1877. At this time she had eight children, five boys and three girls.
James H. Devin was born in September, 1850 in Missouri. He would be the son of Amanda and John Devin. He died at the age of 42 and is buried a long side Amanda Evans and John Devin.
After William A. Jenkins died, Amanda was again married to a Mr. Evans. Her name was then Amanda M. Evans. It was unknown what his first name was but it might have been a Mr. J. A. Evans who lived in the Brighton Township.
Amanda M. Evans' head stone is one of the several that were repaired with the money raised by the fifth grade class.
